Alumni Family Get-together 2016

A much-awaited occasion, 10 am 0f 16th April2016. Friends Alumni started assembling from near and far. They travelled from Bangaluru, Madurai, Kovai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and so on to one destination.. the Assembly Hall of our beloved Chittur College. The Principal Dr Sethumadhavan , in his humble and cool nature extended warm hospitality to our guests, making them feel that all of them still belong to GCC. He finds time to make himself available to the Alumni for its all college centred activities. In his office he welcomed the Chief Guest Prof M.K .Prasad, former PVC of Calicut University, Dr Latha Varma Ambat, Principal (retd), Madurai and the Admin Team of Alumni Association. Thank you Dr Sethumadhavan, on behalf of the entire Alumni, for the support.
The Chief Guest
No need to Introduce Prof M.K.Prasad. As a teaching faculty of GCC, Professor of Botany , Calicut University, and P.Vc of Calicut University he is known among the campus community. His signature in the area of sustainable ecological development in Kerala is remembered by all, his association with National and International organisations working for the protection of trees and preservation of nature is well acknowledged. Prof Prasad , in his inter- action with his old students and the Alumni of GCC reminded about the extensive deforestation activities in the name of developments done by Corporates and also by the Government. Compensatory tree plantation programmes and social forestry does not match the extent of destruction. He shared his happiness to see the College Campus rich green .
Welcome Speech
Mr. A.V .Haridas, after the invocation, Welcomed the chief guest, guests and all the participants. He remembered the contributions made by Dr M.K.Kandoran, GVK Prakash, EMV,Mr P.T Kunjunni,Adv Balachandran , Mr Gopalakrishnan and many many other members of 57 – 60 batch who developed the concept of an Old Boys Association, which , later on became the seed for the association. He also extended a warm welcome for all the members ,
Presidential Address
Prof. K. Jayadevan, in his Presidential address,congratulated all the members of the Association for their whole-hearted support and involvement. He thanked the senior members for their contributions in terms of valuable suggestions, and also thanked for the enthusiasm of the Alumni who have travelled long distances like Bangalore, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trivandrum & Kochi . He presented a detailed outline of the plan of action for the coming year. He also thanked all the Donors for their funding for the awards , the NSS family of Chittur College, Silver Arts GCC and Prof. Alummoottil Joseph Michael . He acknowledged the contributions by Dr. Latha Varma Ambat for sponsoring two academic excellence Awards in Music -UG& PG.
The President sought the approval of the General Body for the three proposals—-
1 ) Awards to be introduced for Best Theatrical Performer and the Best Sports Person. proposed by Pro. Alummootil Joseph Michael.
2) A contingent fund of Rs 50000 made available to the Association for its functioning. The amount will effect as a refundable advance to be returned the SB account at the end of the Financial Year. The fund will be made available by Pro. Alummootil Joseph Michael.
3) Dr Latha Varma , her Sister Usha Varma and their family have come forward to support the cost of repair the Open Air Auditorium,in memory of her sister late Vanaja Varma Ambat.Vanaja , as a student of GCC , was a very talented performer in stage events and a multi-talented personality.
The house unanimously approved the above proposals and consented for the implementation.
The President remembered the former staff members whose demise were condoled. Prof Parvathy of Physics department, Prof W.D.Joy Chemistry and Prof T.V Sasi, Malayalam.
He also appreciated the college Principal Dr.Sethumadhavan and his team for the unconditional support extended to the Association.
