Empowering the Future


“CHIRAKU – “CARING COMPASSIONATE CONSIDERATE”: Chiraku is the signature charity programme of the Association that supports eligible students from economically backward background during their college life with a financial assistance of Rs.14,000/- per year for three years. The initiative had its humble beginning in 2017-18. After an initial vetting of students by the college administration, the screening committee of the Association conducts further enquiries before selection of the final list to ensure that only deserving candidates enjoy the benefit. And it is an ongoing evaluation process as to their annual academic performance and other parameters till the course is completed.

Since the inception in 2017-18 academic cycle the Chiraku scheme has rendered assistance of Rs.24.92 lakhs over 75 students till academic year 2024-25.
Chiraku is one of the most noble deeds of the Association and satisfying and enriching experience for the members.

The history of numbers of students benefitted by Scholarship each year is as below:-

Cycle 1: 2017-2020 = 3 students

Cycle 2: 2018- 2021 = 5 students

Cycle 3: 2019 – 2022 = 4 students

Cycle 4:2020 – 2023 = 12 students

Cycle 5: 2021 – 2024 = 13 students

Cycle 6: 2022 – 2025 = 10 students

Cycle 7:2023 – 2026 = 11 students

Cycle 8:2024 – 2027 = 17 students

Cycle 9:2025 – 2028 = 24 students

To be eligible for a CHIRAKU Award Scholarship, students must:

Eligibility:

  • Hail from the vicinity of GCC.
  • Be studying at GCC.
  • Be financially very backward.
  • Meet the specific criteria set by the Alumni Association.

Selection Process:

The selection process involves:

  • A field survey conducted by a team led by the President and Secretary of the Alumni Association.
  • Telephonic interviews with shortlisted students.
  • Assessment of students’ academic merit and economic backwardness.

Scholarship Details:

  • The number of scholarships awarded varies each year, depending on the availability of sponsors.
  • Scholarships are typically distributed at a formal event, such as the GCC Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
  • Selected through a rigorous process that combines field surveys and telephonic interviews, recipients of CHIRAKU Award.
